Flip it on & Turn it Up: A Prayer in the Winter

Precious Beloved ~

How very grateful I am that we have access to running water!  Indoor plumbing, especially the toilet and shower, and electricity, particularly the heat and stove, are often taken for granted in our society.  In the winter particularly, if any one of these things runs awry, we feel the effects right away and are quick to lament.  Before the cries of lament, Lord, I just want to say thank You.

Thank You, Lord, for these "everyday" tools and the minds and hands that You enabled to create them.  Thank You for the lights that allow me to stay up later than sunset and work on a prayer shawl, compose a new song, or work on my homework for the week.  Thank You for the heat, for the stove and the dishwasher that make life more manageable.

Thank You for running water for tea, coffee and warm showers in the morning, and for all the drains that allow waste and dirt to be taken away to keep us healthy.  Thank You for the internet, for telephones, for wireless communication networks, and all the technology that enables us to connect with loved ones and to discover new people, new places and new avenues for careers.  While any of these things can be abused, there are infinite uses that can bring glory to Your name and can benefit the communities, plants and animals around us.

Lord, help us to not take our resources for granted.  Help us to see our environment, the animals, the people and all the technology and science around us with new eyes.  Help us remember You, Lord, and Your gift of Living Water every time we turn on the faucet.  Help us, Lord, to give thanks for the abundance that we encounter everyday!  Help us, Beloved, to share all that we have to the glory of Your name.

For all of society's simple blessings that often go unnoticed, Lord we thank You.  Amen.
